Bakoma Kintaudi: Scholarship program beneficial

Regarding the June 27 editorial “Voucher mess”: Earlier this month, the state Supreme Court ruled on dozens of pending cases. Unfortunately, the Opportunity Scholarship Program was not one of them, and thousands of families like mine continue to anxiously await a decision that directly affects our children.

This program has been a great benefit to my family, and I am hopeful the state Supreme Court will soon uphold it. Before the scholarships, the best schools in our area were out of reach because we could not afford private school tuition. We want our children to attend a school that can equip them for life in the 21st century, but we do not have the money to do so.

This year, all three of my children have been able to attend private school through the program and are on the honor roll. One of my sons was Student of the Month for academic success, and my other son was elected to be a class representative. The boys have learned to write in cursive in second grade and are among the top students in their class.

It is important people understand this program is benefiting kids like mine.
