Mac Garrison: Jesus supported marriage
On July 10 The N&O published a Point of View “Uncompelling ‘biblical marriage’ ” by a professor of theology at Duke Divinity School. The purpose of the article was to ridicule conservative Christians who do not agree with the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling regarding “same-sex marriage.”
There was a glaring error made by the writer in that she stated that Jesus was not a fan of marriage because he did not marry during his time on earth. Her statement is blatantly false.
Jesus was a guest at a wedding in Cana of Galilee, at which he performed his first miracle by changing water into fine wine to be enjoyed by the wedding party.
More important, the church, those who have put their faith and trust in Jesus, is and will forever be the bride of Christ. He is referred to as the bride groom in the book of Revelation who will take his bride to himself, illustrating true marriage.
The writer of the article also failed to mention the six scripture references which clearly condemn all forms of homosexual behavior. A convenient oversight I’m sure.
Makes one wonder what the divinity students at Duke are being taught.
