Randy Marsh: Clever interpretation

I have to write a note of appreciation for the July 10 Point of View “Uncompelling ‘biblical marriage’ ” by Mary McClintock Fulkerson. Not so much for its content as for its subtle use of the same poor hermeneutical approach to the Bible as those whom she critiques, those who have used this approach both past and present to justify their own point of view.

The use of that inadequate methodology might be too subtle for many readers who otherwise might be inclined to read her tactic too literally. They might assume she is being fully serious in using inadequate biblical interpretive principles to state her own case, rather than understanding she is using the very same method of those Christians to whom she refers in her article against their own lacking logic. Well done!
