Nanette de Andrade: Nonvoter too critical
Regarding the July 5 column “Obama wants me to send $3”: Rob Christensen’s cynical attempt at humor over email political contribution requests was neither funny nor worthy of space in The N&O.
As a self-described “registered unaffiliated” who has voted only in municipal elections in at least the past 15 years and has never contributed to a candidate, Christensen has shown himself to be a poor citizen who deserves, I would say is even partly responsible for, the mess our state and U.S. Congress are currently in.
The emails were begging for financial support, but the dire situations are real.
I wish he would drop his mocking contempt, educate himself on what’s going on and get involved in the process. It is a shame that someone with “the power of the pen” doesn’t seem to care about our country or political process; rather, he uses his column to increase the apathy and ennui of others.
I urge everyone to be a true patriot, worthy of the ideals and sacrifices made for our freedom. Study the issues and examine conscience, get involved and vote!
