Eric Chabinsky: Iran a ‘mortal threat’
As a longtime subscriber and registered Democrat, I was appalled at your July 16 editorial “A good nuclear deal with Iran” and accompanying political cartoon which oversimplified a mortal threat to our country as cheap partisan politics between the Republicans and the Obama administration.
With the hindsight of Neville Chamberlain’s “success” with Hitler and much more recently North Korea obtaining nuclear weapons capability despite a similar “good nuclear deal,” you owe your readers much more than this facile analysis.
It was only this month that the “changing leadership in Iran” was celebrating a “Death to America” parade while neither U.S. Republicans nor Democrats were hosting a similar celebration against Iran.
By throwing Israel into the mix, you blame the canary in the coal mine for warning us of the danger, while ignoring the equivalent concern of all the Sunni Muslim nations in the region.
When Saudi Arabia purchases the same nuclear missile technology from Pakistan in response to this “good nuclear deal,” I’m sure you will proudly publish a front-page headline celebrating John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart’s Nobel Peace Prize.
