Chris Hoffman: GA needs to get to work on budget
I find it amazing that the state legislature does not have its priorities remotely in line in order to get its day-to-day business completed in a timely manner.
The first priority of managing the state’s business should have been getting the budget and basic operating plan for state services approved and in place. As of now, educators do not know what assets they have to get schools ready to start. Any business operating this way would have major problems.
Instead, the legislature’s priorities have been ideology and politics including fighting gay marriage, adding more restrictions on abortion and getting involved in how cities and counties should run their business. (Just think of the uproar if Congress enacted laws reorganizing a state’s legislative structure or how state senators are elected.)
The legislature needs to get back to conducting the basic business of the state. Get the key elements of the job completed before starting on pet projects.
