Cecelia Goetz: Northern complainers

In response to the July 14 letter “The South lost the war”: I am also a native Northerner from Ohio and Minnesota. I am appalled at that letter-writer’s dismissal of Southerners’ “sacredness” of the Confederate flag and their reenactments of the Civil War.

Southerners have every right to be proud of the courage their ancestors displayed in their willingness to fight and die for their beliefs as well as Northerners who did the same. The writer chose to relocate here. Southerners I know would not think of going north and then complain in the local newspaper about things they deem illogical.

I am glad my children were brought up among people who value their history, hold fast to values that endure and love their country and state. They are also willing to live alongside Yankees who disrespect them for their beliefs.
