Carl Sigel: Amazon blazing trail for renewables

The July 14 news article “Amazon backs NC’s 1st large wind farm” underscored the fact that while some continue to deny the scientific reality of climate change, the economic realities show us that North Carolina’s smart businesses are not in a state of denial about global warming.

Clearly we are moving to a new, cleaner energy future built much more on renewables than on polluting fossil fuels, such as coal.

This shift will help protect the public from the health dangers of burning dirty fossil fuels, while helping our coastal state steer clear of a dangerously warming future filled with increasing weather extremes, food and water shortages and growing threats to our homes and our state’s economy and infrastructure.

The costs of warming that are already being felt today will hit our children with much more devastating force tomorrow unless we take responsible climate action now.

It’s time for all North Carolinians to demand the smart, affordable policies on climate needed to secure our children’s future in the Tar Heel State. Hats off to Amazon for investing in that future.
