Donald Prush: Take from professors, give to teachers
Based on your Aug. 8 Notable Numbers, I see a solution to the teachers’ salaries funding issue that The N&O continuously highlights.
You noted that college tuition has increased 234 percent since 1993 while inflation increased 63 percent over the same period. You also noted that public school teachers’ salaries only increased 4.1 percent over the period 2003 to 2013.
My suggestion is that legislators decrease the money going to North Carolina major universities, freeze the salaries of the professors since their salaries represent over 80 percent of the increase in university costs and give those released funds to the state public school teachers.
