Robert Y. George: Stewards of nature
I see words of wisdom expressed succinctly in the Aug. 19 Point of View “Our water at risk” by Harry Payne.
Yes, we must reject House Bill 765. His hope that “God, government and treatment plants are protecting us” makes us wonder whether we are good stewards of God’s creation.
Our fish in rivers in North Carolina have dwindled in quantity, quality and health over the decades. We wonder whether SolarBees, installed in Jordan Lake, worked at all to eliminate toxic blooms of cyanobacteria.
Should we also consider in situ nutrient reduction plans both in in our reservoirs like Jordan Lake and Falls Lake before it is too late?
These are ideas to discuss between scientists and policymakers so that our water will not be at risk.
