Pamela Boyd: Taxes are necessary
Thank you for the Sept. 7 column “A shortsighted budget fight” that outlined just a few ways that government benefits us now and for the future.
I would like to see more articles that show how taxes benefit people directly and indirectly. That seems obvious, but people have decried paying taxes for so long that they have forgotten the good and necessary outcomes.
Perhaps the writer of the Sept. 7 letter “Still big government” might see some value for his dollar. It seems his goal is “no government.” In practical terms, what would we be giving up if government spending shrank further?
Maybe if he saw the stark reality of his desire, he might modify it.
