Joe Dew: Moore’s home cooking

Regarding the Sept. 5 news article “Speaker earmarks money for district”: Count me among those who were not surprised to see that what Republican House Speaker Tim Moore made certain to include in the House budget was millions for his pet projects and the folks back home in Kings Mountain.

As a taxpayer, I get it. Such things have been a part of politics since ancient days. But I can muster absolutely no respect for a man who holds the speaker’s office, takes such actions and then hides from a reporter who wants to ask about it.

Instead of defending his decisions and demonstrating his willingness to stand up for his convictions, he relies on others to take the heat. His spokeswoman offered us a lame statement about it, and other members of his leadership team tried to explain.

All of which makes me wonder: Is Moore ashamed of what he has done?

Joe Dew
