Hope Odzak: Expensive personal projects
Regarding the Sept. 5 news article “Speaker earmarks money for district”: All I can say to House Speaker Tim Moore is, “Where are your priorities?” Are they only with those who voted for him or are they with the taxpaying residents of North Carolina and their children?
If we total the dollars that he wants to spend on his voters, it comes to over $15.2 million (that we know of) – $200,000 for one baseball game; $5 million for a water and sewer infrastructure grant with specific guidelines that could be directed only toward Kings Mountain; and, last but not least, $10 million to libraries for funds that weren’t even requested.
The need for our schools, teachers and teachers assistants is so great I can only ask, “What is he thinking?”
It also makes me wonder if these items are approved, what is going on with those who are voting for this budget? Do they also have personal agendas out there or have they failed to read the proposed budget?
