Terry Kelly: Disgraceful education funding
Why our politicians find it so difficult to find money to help our struggling teachers is beyond me. Every time extra money pops up in the budget, our politicians shouldn’t hesitate to put it toward education.
Friends who are teachers are using their own money to buy supplies for their classrooms. One is asking parents to chip in to help stock her classroom. Is this what we call good North Carolina education policies with our budget? I would say not.
We need to wake up as voters and start to consider replacing the people we put in who can give themselves an extra 73 days to make a decision about money going into the government budget.
What did our teachers do for those 73 days? Struggle to keep our children educated the best they could. They don’t make enough money to have to dig into their pockets to supplement their classroom supplies.
It is disgraceful that our educational system is so messed up because our representatives have too many other agendas outside of what we voted them in to do.
