Chris Brockman: Doubts dispelled

Gene Nichol tells it like it is in his Sept. 25 Point of View “An exercise in villainy” – even more directly than usual.

Simply put, our legislative Republicans are “increasing the tax burden for poor Tar Heels” to “significantly reduce the tab for those at the top.” If there is any doubt that the Republicans favor the rich and business against the middle- and lower-class and workers, this budget dispels it.

What a contrast to Pope Francis who reminded Christians of their moral obligation to help the poorest among us. Voters who consider themselves Christians had better think about who first said those words before they mark their ballots in the fall.

Chris Brockman
