Jamie Parker: Round and round

I find it interesting that the latest article regarding WCPSS transportation claimed there were few complaints. Many are not bothering to ride because of the ride length. We have four schools within 7 miles of our house, all of which are year-round. With three children, we chose a long-term plan to be in traditional schools, all of which are 11+ miles away.

Currently, we are assigned to a bus stop that is 5+ miles from our house and in the opposite direction from school. There is a stop that is 1.8 miles from our house. We have been told that because we are magnet students, we must go to the express stop. There is no logic in this. Last year, I was able to speak to a person who understood and got the stop changed.

I am not asking for a different route or a new stop. I am asking only that we go to the nearest stop (same one as last year). I have been told the same thing from a script both in email and on the phone. I’d like to know who forgot to get out the map and how this is better serving our students.
