Bert Shapiro: Inconvenient voting site

No one should have to pay to vote. Unfortunately, unless we live downtown, take a bus or can walk there, we do.

In order to early vote for this election in Raleigh, we have to go to the Board of Elections on Salisbury Street, where there is no free parking. We either find a magic parking space on the street or go into the parking garage.

I understand perfectly well that limits have been imposed on schedules and locations for early voting in order to discourage the “wrong people” from voting. But this is unconscionable.

There is no excuse; if there is to be only one voting site in town, it could just as easily be located – as in the past – in a school or park where there is parking.
