William Holliday: Boehner tired of circus

Regarding the Sept. 26 news article “Boehner’s exit may broaden schism”: House Speaker John Boehner’s resignation raised concern that the partisan politics of our national government will not improve. Boehner was from a time when leaders cared about the institutions of government.

The sad reality is that he has been hamstrung by obstructionists who are guided by extreme agendas. And now it appears that the inmates are poised to take over the asylum.

And the American people, unbeknownst to them, will be the ones who suffer from this Shakespearean drama.

Lee Iacocca once asked, “Where have all the leaders gone?” Well, I am becoming convinced that the ones who would truly make a positive contribution are keeping their hat out of the ring because Washington appears too much like a circus being run by clowns.
