Cherie Poucher: Plenty of options to vote
The writer of the Oct. 3 letter “Inconvenient voting site” did not understand the difference in funding for federal, state and county elections versus municipal elections.
By law, for every election, the Board of Elections in Raleigh must be an early voting site. Municipal elections are conducted by the county board, and the municipality reimburses the county. The county board inquires if a municipality wants additional early voting sites.
The City of Raleigh has never requested additional early voting sites. The writer should discuss his displeasure with the city not the county board.
Also, there are other options to vote. Absentee ballots were available and are available for all elections. We can vote in the comfort of our own homes.
The Wake County Board of Elections does not “discourage people from voting” but works tremendously hard to ensure that all qualified voters have ample opportunities to vote. An example is in 2014 more voters voted early (with the decreased number of days but same number of hours) than in 2010, the comparable year.
