Rachel Anderson: The other 93
In reference to the Oct. 3 news article “Teacher turnover rises in Triangle”: Did Terry Stoops, director of education studies for the John Locke Foundation conservative think tank, actually think? He missed the big number point.
He said, “It (the study) is misread because many assume all attrition is bad. In fact, we want the bad teachers to leave in large numbers and as quickly as possible.”
Almost 93 percent of the teachers who left their jobs in North Carolina departed for reasons other than dismissal; 93 is a larger number than 7.
If he really wants to improve education in North Carolina, he should stop “thinking” in a tank and teach in a classroom. Wait. Maybe a tank is a good place for people who think like this.
