Jarles Alberg: Create safer guns
Do we lock our door to our house or car? Do we use a password for our cellphone, tablet or computer? Of course we do. We secure important things for protection. Why, then, do we not require guns to have a secure passkey or fingerprint recognition in order for them to fire?
Currently, any gun, one of the most dangerous implements on the planet, can be picked up and used by anyone, even a child. I’m not saying we can’t own a gun. I’m just saying that we need to secure it so it can be used only by us.
Force guns to brick (become unusable) without our fingerprints or some sort of passkey. This way our children can’t use our guns. Another person can’t steal our gun and use it against us or anyone else. Create new ammunition that fits only the new guns and tie ammo purchases to individual owners. Use old guns for collecting or trade them in for credit on a new weapon that supports new technology and new ammunition.
This creates new jobs for America if we keep the manufacturing here in the United States. Change the gun standard like we did the gold standard.
