Fred Howes: Graham not an idol
The Oct. 8 Focus article “Book echoes hard-line Billy Graham of ’50s” for the supposedly new Billy Graham book is a slap in the face of Christians who are not fundamentalists and the people of other faiths.
For the years that Graham preached a more simple message to come to Christ, this book is another excellent reason for having someone else representing our state with a statue in the U.S. Capitol. We do not need his ideas of “going to hell” to represent our multi-religious state, and it is just another example of our N.C. Assembly gone amok.
I’ve read so many Franklin Graham diatribes against Muslims and those going to hell if they don’t accept Jesus. The God of the universe and the God of love I worship wouldn’t treat his creation this way.
So much for the hardline approach of fundamentalists like the Grahams. No wonder people become disillusioned with the Christian religion.
