Duke’s slap on the wrist

Regarding the Oct. 12 editorial “Outrage over the Duke fine”: I am wondering how long it took to decide that $7 million was a number that would be perceived as big enough to mute significant outrage but small enough that Duke would accept it.

This company has been dumping waste in our state and continues to do so. Now we have members of our state government making a deal that effectively is not even a slap on the wrist to a company that has proven time and again that profit always trumps the environment.

Of course, it helps that there are numerous “former” employees involved in this disgrace. I’m just sayin’.
