Amalendu Chatterjee: Civil debate a treat
What a contrast of civility between the GOP debate and the Democratic debate. Anderson Cooper must be congratulated for his professional journalism: pointed but appropriate questions to all candidates, but the responses were all on issues.
There was no animosity among Cooper and any of the candidates or among candidates. Even some candidates complimented their opponents on their strengths.
And there was no attack of women, no attack on blood coming from wherever, no boasting of how rich each candidate is, no talk of witch hunts, no attack of personal careers.
I am proud to be American and watch such debates where we can honestly, without hostility, debate issues. It is not the question of winning or losing in the media but the question of connecting to majority Americans.
The country cannot dwell on one person and one event such as Benghazi and emails year after year.
We have to rise above the petty errors or bad judgment on complex situations so that greater goals are achieved.
This debate was uplifting to the country’s morale, and we need more of those.
