Barbara M. Parramore: Loss of wages distressing
I am very distressed by the contents of “The Reluctant Regulator” series.
First, I am enraged that a state agency with authority to protect the rights of low-wage workers chooses not to do so to any responsible extent. Next, I’m struck by the fact that the most sad and disappointing examples given are of lost wages by women.
Having visited a dear friend in an assisted living facility for nearly 10 years several times a week, I observed how important the caregivers are in maintaining residents’ health and well-being. They should earn more than the minimum wage.
The lack of human compassion by Akilia Slocumb is unspeakable and the lack of follow-through by the state regulators is unconscionable.
