Chris Fonville: Rubber stamp candidate

Regarding the Oct. 17 news article “Fractured board holds emergency meeting”: John Fennebresque and the dysfunctional UNC Board of Governors continue to underwhelm and embarrass the state of North Carolina with Fennebresque’s attempt to fast track consideration of a political lackey from the failed George W. Bush administration.

Is Margaret Spellings, who was partly responsible for No Child Left Behind, a largely despised reform that resulted in “teach to the test,” and someone who has no formal education beyond an undergraduate degree in political science, truly the best person to lead the UNC system?

We now see exactly what the “need for change” was that precipitated President Tom Ross’ termination: the need for a Republican rubber stamp.

Chris Fonville
