Bruce Miller: Please sell historic homes
North of the Governor’s Mansion are 17 wonderful historic houses, owned by the state. They have been empty and deteriorating for years.
The legislature ordered them sold in 2003, but they are not being sold. The governor says they should be sold, but they are not being sold. Preservation North Carolina says they should be sold, but they are not being sold.
Windows are broken, roofs are leaking, wood is rotting, but the houses are not being sold. All around them is a booming city, but the houses are not being sold. They could provide millions in money for the state, but they are not being sold.
“For sale” signs went up at a few of the houses last July, but they are not being sold.
These homes are monuments to Raleigh’s wonderful architectural heritage and deserve better treatment by loving owners than they are currently receiving from the state.
