Walter Powell: Pure GOP rhetoric

I was so amused by the Oct. 25 letter “An early endorsement” from Dallas Woodhouse trying to take you to task for your support of Roy Cooper.

Since Woodhouse is executive director of the North Carolina Republican Party, I suppose he has to try something. But what he tries should be much more accurate.

He stated that Cooper raised taxes by more than $9 billion for North Carolina families, and that he cut funding to education. I am sure there are many of us who would like to know how.

I checked the Attorney General’s office and discovered that he did not do it during his terms there, so I guess Woodhouse is trying to pin that on Cooper during his time in the legislature. It took Democrats and Republicans together to make cuts and taxes like that. I doubt Cooper was responsible.

That is like saying Woodhouse was responsible for Medicaid/Medicare cuts and unemployment benefit cuts and making it extremely difficult for a woman to have control of her medical procedures and same-sex marriages. Try again.
