Gary L. Johnson: Light penalty for ACC refs
The egregious mistakes made by the officials on the last play of the Oct. 31 Duke-Miami football game have been national news. The suspensions handed down by the ACC were much too lenient (“ACC suspends officials for missed calls,” Nov. 2 sports article).
Those officials should have been suspended for the remainder of the season, not just two games.
The officials’ action may cost Duke a place in the ACC championship game. Unfortunately, the results stand as called. If there were any honor left in football, the University of Miami would forfeit the game to Duke. However, that’s not going to happen.
