Joe Elinoff: Chancellors should refuse
I should have been appalled when I read the Nov. 3 news article “12 chancellors get 8%-19% pay raises” with the subtitle, “Higher executive pay comes as faculty and staff get no raises.”
Massive raises to enormous salaries for people who don’t need more money, except perhaps for bragging rights, and nothing for all those who actually do need the money and who make the universities what they are!
I should have been appalled, but instead I felt it was situation normal and just one more example of how badly this state is being run.
One small suggestion: To show solidarity with their faculty and staff, the chancellors could refuse to accept this or any future raise until all faculty and staff are also similarly compensated. I will wait with bated breath for this to happen.
