Vincent M. DiSandro Sr.: Don’t foster irresponsibility

Ned Barnett in his Oct. 25 column “Medicaid holdout puts infants at risk” talked about women turning up pregnant who are smokers, overweight and on drugs and recommends that as a reward we pay for free health insurance for them. Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

If they have so many problems, why are they getting pregnant? Why don’t they use birth control or require their partners to use it? If they have money for drugs and cigarettes and all that food, why can’t they pay for their own health insurance? What about the vaunted Obamacare? What about their partners? Whatever happened to fathers paying child support?

If we reward irresponsible behavior, we will get more of it.
