Mary McCluer: Projects should be subject to scrutiny
Regarding the Oct. 26 news article “Top N.C. legislators send money home”: Our legislators have opted to donate $1.25 million directly to 13 rural communities for local projects of their choosing.
Rural communities in need of revitalization can really benefit from a cash infusion to spruce up their main streets.
However, it is crucial that all projects be vetted first to ensure funds actually do benefit the communities.
Without any oversight of how the money is spent, it could be used for a European shopping spree or a backyard Jacuzzi.
