Regarding the Nov. 10 news article “University of Mo. leaders step down”: Insensitivity and lack of concern for marginalized students, in this case African-American, regarding racist actions brought down the university president and chancellor of the flagship campus at the University of Missouri.
Newly arrived UNC president Margaret Spellings when asked at a news conference about her past comments regarding gay people said, “I’m not going to comment on those lifestyles.” Everybody by now knows that “lifestyles” is a code word for judgment and rejection of LGBT folks.
In light of the Missouri debacle, Spellings might like to rethink her attitude toward LGBTs. She might even like to invite some to dinner at the president’s residence.
