Shirley Phillips: Let truckers rest

We were appalled to learn that Gov. Pat McCrory is caving in to Charlie Shelton’s unreasonable request to keep truckers from their rest.

Our son, 25, has been an OTR (over the road) trucker for three years. As parents, we worry for his well-being. Fortunately, he has the common sense to pull over when sleepy.

Have Shelton and McCrory ever traveled to the West Coast? This is a problem in Southern California as well, and it’s not unusual to see truckers pulled off along the coastal highway.

Maybe Shelton needs to build a truck stop in his area.
