I was so impressed with the Nov. 12 letter “Protect our fish supply.” I live on Masonboro Sound, between Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. I moved here in 1971 and started shrimping in 1973. I caught approximately 1,500 pounds the first year; however, I got so disappointed with killing so many small baby fish when I pulled in the shrimp net that I stopped shrimping. I also caught spot fish but realized that no net fishing should not be done inside since some baby fish could get killed.
I’ve heard we are only one of four states that allow fishing in the sounds. I hope our legislature will change our laws to help eliminate our fish supply problems.
