Bonnie Bechard: Succumbing to fear

The terrorists won when Gov. Pat McCrory succumbed to panic and fearmongering. This is the terrorists’ goal.

We already have the most stringent vetting of immigrants in the world, and it takes 18 months to two years to complete the process. Only 2 percent of the Syrian refugees are combat-age males; the rest are women, children and the elderly who are trying to escape horror.

Please, let’s not give in to this shameful fear, as we did during World War II when we interned Japanese-American citizens or refused Jewish refugees from the Holocaust.

Shame on the governors and politicians who are fueling this hysteria. If they are truly concerned about mass shootings, then ban assault weapons and tighten gun registration regulations.
