Susan Ruffini: Wealthy pay too much tax to be charitable
The Nov. 29 business article “Study: Income inequality makes rich more stingy” by the Los Angeles Times concerning the stinginess of the top 0.1 percent of wage earners toward giving to charity failed to state that this top 0.1 percent pay the largest portion of income taxes of which much goes to pay subsidies to the poor and needy. The latter would undoubtedly be much worse off without these subsidies, but perhaps the top 0.1 percent would be more charitable and have more money to donate if they had less taxes to pay.
