Tommy Brown: ‘Theater politics’ by Obama
Regarding your Jan. 6 editorial “Obama moves on gun violence”: It doesn’t surprise me that you agree with the president’s latest assault on the U.S. Constitution. After all, he’s been getting away with it for seven years.
My only shock is how, and why, the Republicans in Washington, and all over this nation, continue to allow him to get away with slowly stripping away Americans’ rights by ignoring the separation of powers in the Constitution because he agrees with some polls and Congress won’t act fast enough to suit him.
I actually agree with some of his proposals. What I don’t agree with is his thinking he has the authority to make law. He does not.
You think it was, or close to, his finest hour. All I saw was theater politics at its finest. And we wonder why Americans are so disgusted with our politicians today.
