Robert Brown: Evangelicals and guns

There has been a lot of news coverage lately about the influence of evangelical voters in the Republican presidential primaries. Unfortunately, I have yet to hear an evangelical pastor publicly denounce the Republican candidates’ glorification of semiautomatic firearms, which amounts to an endorsement of idolatry and a shocking lack of concern for law and order and public safety.

Nor has there been any willingness to condemn the advertising industry that promotes the mainstream acceptance of military-style rifles.

This unwillingness to tackle a major issue reduces the credibility of the churches.
