Bob LeBowsky: Taxes add up
I just finished reading State Sen. Robert Rucho’s comment in the Jan. 11 Community Conversations “State fees and taxes.” That’s a lot of bull.
I also just finished my spreadsheet documenting what I paid in sales tax in 2015. Yes, I did receive a state income tax cut, but the money spent on increased sales tax was about 60 percent higher then the tax savings.
Also my property tax increased about 13.8 percent because the Wake County schools, Wake government and the Town of Cary needed more money to offset state government cutbacks.
We will be spending more for state taxes because of more new taxes in 2016. The only people benefiting from this are businesses, Duke Energy and high-income individuals. The small- and middle-class people are getting a raw deal.
The Republicans have set our state back 100 years. I have voted in every local, state and federal election since I was old enough to vote. I have never voted a straight ticket in my life. I always voted for the person I thought could do the best job. However, in the next state and local elections, I’ll vote for the devil if he is running on a Democratic ticket.
