Billy E. Jones: Contributing to rancor

There is much truth in the Jan. 14 editorial “A house divided” about President Obama’s State of the Union speech. Most of your readers probably agree with you that the current state of extreme political polarization and paranoia is hurting our nation. I also think that, by definition, this extreme political polarization is at both ends of the spectrum, and that, unfortunately for your readers, your editorial policy is at one of those extremes.

According to your editorials, no fair-minded Republicans and no wrong-headed Democrats exist. The N&O should take its own advice and heed our president’s call for a nation united in purpose and engaged in politics based on mutual respect and common civility.
