Marion A. Ellis: Required reading on voter ID

Ned Barnett’s Jan. 31 column “Voter ID narrows the right to vote” should be required reading for every legislator, judge and election official in every state, not just North Carolina.

Did voters in the 1800s and early 1900s have to take a painted portrait of themselves to the polls?
