Ben Davis: Plates not appealing
Regarding your Feb. 23 Road Worrier column “Some N.C. specialty plates losing luster”: You mentioned that sales have decreased significantly since, for better visibility, the design changed and the numbers were required to be placed in the white boxes. That’s exactly why I haven’t purchased one.
I, and apparently others, no longer like the look of them. So, why does law enforcement have such a problem with the original plates without the ugly white boxes, but they apparently have no problem with the “clear” plastic covers people put over their plates, most of which make it much harder to read the numbers underneath?
If those are tolerable, then surely we could do away with the ugly white boxes. I bet we would see sales go up again.
