Gary L. Johnson: GOP big government hypocrisy

The Feb. 28 news article “Gov. McCrory touts record, big and small” reported on Gov. Pat McCrory’s justification of his re-election based on his record.

As part of that record, McCrory refered to the I-77 toll lanes issue in Mecklenburg County and noted that “it was a local decision, in line with his intentions to decentralize state decision-making.” McCrory said, “There’s a democratic way they voted on it. I’m not going to override that process that’s devised by statute.”

That statement must come as a surprise to the duly elected city council of Charlotte regarding its recent vote on gender equality. McCrory and his fellow GOP minions were falling all over themselves to convene a special General Assembly session to overturn this decision.

I am sure the folks in Greensboro, who saw the GOP overturn their council district structure as well, are watching in awe as McCrory and the feckless GA leaders again subvert the democratic process.

Yep, McCrory and crowd are for democratic processes only when it suits their agendas. Hopefully, North Carolina voters will remember this commitment to “GOP democracy” in November.
