Steve Trexler: Historic neighborhoods should pay for benefits
Regarding the Feb. 25 news article “Historic neighborhoods reject LED streetlights”: What would they really like? Maybe some cobblestone pavers also?
Possibly the city could work a deal to install gas lights for that really great old-timey glow. This would also create jobs for someone to light them every night.
I don’t have a problem meeting their historical demands. Simply calculate the difference in cost for LED lighting versus whatever type of lumen output they decide they want and increase the tax burden on those seeking to remain historic.
I am sick and tired of going along with things that cost me more in taxes just so that others can get what they want at no benefit to me.
Maybe those living in “historical Raleigh” should have thought about the future instead of the past when they chose their ITB location.
