Woodrow Setzer: Only GOP into torture

Larry Wilkerson’s criticisms about Sen. Richard Burr were on point in his March 3 Point of View “For rhetoric, blame Burr.” I have only one quibble.

His text included the sentence, “As a result, some presidential candidates now vie over who will order the harshest techniques.” The lead paragraph simplifies this further: “Presidential candidates are vying to see who can be the harshest about what torture techniques they would order.”

Both statements hide an important distinction: Only Republican candidates are participating in this disgusting competition.

Especially in an election year, it is important not to blur party differences with this sort of “everybody does it” statement.
