Rhonda Harabedian: Honest view on race

Regarding the March 3 Point of View “How it feels to be white like me”: Well-written piece. Thought-provoking, sensitive, honest.

As a white person, actually part Native American, I have felt the sadness that we can’t all be just people.

I grew up in a small, mostly black town. We were poor, white and the minority. I have felt some of the same emotions. I have felt left out, on the outside looking in, ostracized. I also had deep friendships and learned not to judge the exterior of a person.

I love cultural differences. It is the spice of life. I have a profound sadness that others cannot appreciate the differences and feel threatened by them.

Thanks for including this POV. It shows what can happen when we are brave enough to be honest and open in talking about the race issue.
