Lewis Sanders: Politicians have betrayed us
David Brooks’ March 7 column “Donald Trump the great betrayer” highlighted his one-sided view of Trump and the reasons he should be stopped by the Republican elite.
He asserted that Trump has lived a business life of betrayal. While there may be some truth in this view, it is the betrayal of the American people by the political elite of this country over past decades that has generated a silent American revolution to dump establishment politicians.
Both parties have hijacked our country and betrayed us. Witness the single-digit approval rating of our Congress. And now they and the deep-state politicians appoint themselves to tell us which presidential candidates may be good for us.
Politicians’ narcissism and broken and empty promises have become standard fare. The American people have had enough and believe that even a flawed politician with some of the characteristics of career politicians may not be a bad choice.
