Randall Rickman: LED lights too bright

Regarding the Feb. 25 article “Historic neighborhoods reject LED streetlights”: Yet again the City Council is leading the assault on Raleigh’s quality of life, this time in collusion with Duke Energy.

The LEDs are intrusive and out of place everywhere, not just in historic districts. My street now looks like a football stadium at night. And claims of increased security are ludicrous. LED lights call attention to burglary targets while affording would-be burglars plenty of deep shadows in which to hide.

Does anyone doubt that any cost savings are earmarked for pet projects enriching the developer class? Once again the City Council has achieved a lose-lose for residents.
