Tania Malik: No display of ‘girl power’

Craig Lindsey might have had good intentions in his March 13 column “SI’s cover choice a win for plus-size models,” but he missed the mark completely. He hailed Sports Illustrated for picking a plus-size model for its cover.

What he missed is that women are still objectified in SI’s swimsuit edition to where it is basically soft porn delivered to my mailbox. He referenced “girl power” with no idea what that is.

Plus-size or waif, SI objectifies women in this edition. Lindsey could have referenced the 2016 Pirelli Calendar that does celebrate women displaying all types of their power, and most of them keep their clothes on.
